With more than 20 years of experience as a plastic surgeon, I have witnessed and been a part of the evolution of cosmetic gynecology. I am happy to see that the topic is slowly but surely becoming less taboo, both in the media and in society. Women are becoming more aware of their options and more brave about seeking help. Still, many women feel uncomfortable broaching the subject of vaginal rejuvenation with friends, or even a doctor. In my continuing research to keep up with current cosmetic gynecology trends, and everlasting eagerness to find interesting information that I think my patients could benefit from, I found this article written by Randy A. Birken, MD.
Cosmetic Gynecology: Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation and Designer Laser Vaginoplasty
“The expansion of cosmetic gynecology may conjure confusion and perhaps some laughter, but to a woman who experiences vaginal looseness, urinary leakage, and reduced pleasure during intimacy, there is nothing amusing about it at all. Added to this problem is the stretching or elongation of the labia, or lips, or the external genitalia, further emphasis by the liberal exposure of female nudeness and what models, actresses, and “sexual workers” promote as female organ beauty. Beyond just the appearance of the external genitalia comes the discomfort of exercise, problems wearing tight clothing, and diminished self-esteem.”
He goes on to explain laser vaginal rejuvenation, designer laser vaginoplasty, and even having both procedures done in combination. Click HERE to read the full article. For more from Dr. Randy A. Birken, MD head HERE.
With so much information available at our fingertips these days, you can easily find out more about your condition, your concerns, and even the different surgical procedures available to you. While this may help you realize that you are not the only one suffering through the same uncomfortable pain and embarrassment, this is not the solution to your problem. If you are considering vaginal rejuvenation, I highly suggest speaking to a surgeon with experience in cosmetic gynecology to have an open dialogue about your condition and your options.
